Going to have a clinic for club members who have fished from a float tube before, but have not fished the Forebay for Stripers. To get in the class, you MUST contact scottkitayama@gmail.com. Class will be limited to about 10 people and I am also inviting some people from the Salinas Valley fish club.
What you need for the class:
- 6-8 wt rod with sinking line,
- 15# – 20# mono filament leader
- Clouser-styel or San Luis Smelt fly
- float tube, fins, pfd
- walkie talkie
Class will cover the following basics:
- Staying safe while fishing the Forebay.
- Locations to fish at the Forebay.
- Basics of leader and flies used.
- Basics of retrieve and hook set for stripers.
- Go out in small groups and fish!
Location: Clinic will be held near the day-use parking lot near check 12. This is past the San Luis Creek RV Campground near the bathrooms. This is about 15-20 minutes away from where the Santa Cruz group will be camping. (The reason for this location is that we should be able to do the class even if the wind is blowing hard).
There is no cost for the class. Please review the information on our clubs website https://www.santacruzflyfishing.org/fly-fishing-oneill-forebay-for-stripers/
